The History
At the beginning of the 20th century, a bathhouse stood on the beautiful site where Paal 8 Hotel aan Zee now stands. Guests could relax and unwind on the dunes, enjoying the fresh and healing sea air. The sand needed for the bathhouse was taken from a dune valley south of West aan Zee, which is still known today as Badhuiskuil. The construction of this bathhouse in 1916 essentially marked the beginning of tourism on Terschelling.
During World War II, the bathhouse was demolished and replaced by a hotel. In 2006, this old hotel was taken down and replaced by a larger hotel with the same name—the current Paal 8 Hotel aan Zee.
